Preliminary Examination (Prelims):

Objective:To screen candidates for the Main Examination.

Format:Two papers, each objective (multiple-choice):

• Paper I: General Studies (GS) - Current events, history, geography, polity, economy, environment, science, and general awareness.
• Paper II: Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) - Comprehension, logical reasoning, data interpretation, and decision-making (qualifying in nature with 33% required to pass).

Duration: 2 hours for each paper.

Total Marks: 400 (200 marks each paper).

Main Examination (Mains)

Objective:To assess candidates’ academic and intellectual abilities in more depth..

Format: Panel interview involving questions on general awareness, specific knowledge of the subject, current events, and ethical situations.

Total Marks: 275

Personality Test (Interview)

Objective:To evaluate the personality, social qualities, and suitability for a career in civil services.

Format:Nine descriptive (written) papers::

• Paper A & Paper B: Language papers (one Indian language and English, both qualifying).
• Essay Paper: One essay paper requiring two essays on given topics.
• Four General Studies Papers (GS 1-4): In-depth testing on subjects like history, geography, polity, ethics, governance, international relations, economy, and environment.
• Optional Subject Paper 1 & 2: Two papers in one optional subject chosen by the candidate from a list (e.g., Sociology, Public Administration, Geography, Anthropology, etc.).

Duration: 3 hours for each paper.

Total Marks: 1750 (counted for ranking).
